First, this is a great recipe to let little ones help with. I always try to mention that on recipes that don’t involve the stove or oven or that’s super easy. This one is perfect.
You can use white chocolate chips, Wilton candy melts, or almond bark for this recipe. Additionally, if you prefer, you can use dark chocolate.
Finally, you can double this recipe easily if you need to.
HOW TO CRUSH CANDY CANES FOR WHITE CHOCOLATE MIX
Unwrap the candy canes and place them in a freezer zipper-top bag, squeeze the air out, and seal it. Now, lightly crush them with a rolling pin or meat mallet. Be careful and don’t bang too hard or the candy cane could rip the bag and come out.

WHITE CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT CHEX MIX
Ingredients
- 6 cups Chex cereal corn or rice
- 12 ounces white chocolate candy melts or almond bark (I use these candy melts)
- 1 tablespoon Crisco shortening
- 5 6-inch peppermint candy canes traditional candy canes
Instructions
- Unwrap the candy canes and place them in a freezer ziptop bag and crush using a rolling pin or meat mallet.
- Place a sheet of waxed paper or parchment paper on the counter.
- Place the white chocolate (or almond bark) in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 30-second increments stirring each time until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Put the Chex cereal in a large bowl. Pour melted chocolate over cereal and carefully stir with a large spatula until the cereal is coated.
- Pour onto waxed paper and spread out some. (Work quickly)
- Sprinkle crushed peppermint over the chocolate-covered cereal before it cools.
- Allow the chocolate to cool and harden.
- Store in an airtight container. It should stay fresh for 5 to 6 days.
