Stuffed Crust Pizza
Turn any pizza into a stuffed crust in one easy step!
Making pizza crust is easy. I have a complete guide here on how to make Easy Pizza Dough. Making Stuffed Crust Pizza is just as easy and requires just one extra step.
The Stuffed Crust Pizza is more of a process that I will explain below. For the crust recipe, click the link above and you can print out the recipe.
The crust would be super easy if you had cheese sticks like the ones pictured below.
However, if you don’t have cheese sticks on hand, cut cheese from your block to fit around the crust. Cut blocks of mozzarella cheese about 1/2 inch thick and 1 to 2 inches long. Place them on the outer edge of the dough.
Method for stuffing
I then started folding the dough over the cheese. Next, press the dough together to seal.
Now, you simply proceed with the pizza sauce and toppings as normal.
I added a prepared pizza sauce and sausage. Finally, top your pizza with lots of mozzarella cheese.
Look how pretty it turned out!
Yes, my trickery worked. The boys ate the whole pizza CRUST AND ALL!
My boys love to make pizza. I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it before. This was my full-proof, no-fail, trickery to get the boys to eat the crust of their pizza!
We enjoy making pizzas together as a family. Everyone helps. It is a fun family event. Some of our favorite pizza recipes are Ranch Sauce Pizza with Chicken and Bacon, Two Pesto Chicken Pizza with Mozzarella and Ricotta, and Muffin Pan Pepperoni Pizza Bites. Another really fun pizza recipe is pepperoni pizza pockets. Your kiddos will go nuts over these!
I updated this post from an earlier version dated October 15, 2017. I made new photos and simplified the recipe instructions.
Stuffed Crust Pizza
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoon Active Dry or Instant Yeast
- 1 and ยฝ cups warm water between 110 and 120 degrees F
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tablespoons oil
- 4 to 5 sticks string cheese
- marinara, grated mozzarella, sausage & whatever toppings you want
Instructions
- Sprinkle yeast in 1 and 1/2 cup warm water (between 110 and 120ยฐF). In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. With dough hook attachment, drizzle in oil until combined with flour and salt. Add sugar. With the mixer on low, pour in water/yeast mixture and mix until just combined.
- Coat a separate mixing bowl lightly with oil. Pour dough into an oiled bowl and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Let it rise for 30 minutes on the countertop if you plan to use it immediately. Or, (the beauty of this recipe!) refrigerate it for up to 3 days. If refrigerated for later use, take it out of the refrigerator 20 to 30 minutes before you plan to cook it.
- Half the dough then roll one ball of dough into a 10 or 12-inch circle. Place the string cheese 1-inch from the edge. Fold the dough over the cheese and press to seal it.
- Continue with the toppings of your choice.
- Bake in a 450ยฐF oven until the crust is brown and the cheese is melted.
- The other beautiful thing about this recipe is you can use it for breadsticks, pizza, calzones, etc. The dough will make one large pizza, two 10-inch pizzas with a thick crust, and 2 batches of breadsticks or cheese sticks in 8 x 11-inch pan. You can use half the crust and store the remaining in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Yield: (2) 10-12 inch pizza
