Cooking with Sister Schubert

I got to cook with Sister Barnes of Sister Schubert’s Parker House Style rolls fame. It’s was an experience that I’ll never forget! Sister uses her rolls for bread crumbs, croutons, served toasted with dips, in Southern-style dressing, and bread pudding.

As a result, I created this original recipe with the rolls.

Short-cut recipes

Sometimes I like shortcut ‘semi-homemade’ recipes. I find Sister Schubert’s rolls a great base for a lot of different quick recipes. I made Cinnamon Roll Pull Apart Bread and Sister Schubert’s Poppy Seeds Sausage Rolls that both begin with Sister Schubert rolls. Today I’m sharing what will surely become one of my favorite snacks and short-cut breakfasts. I was inspired by my favorite Grilled Cheese Breakfast Sandwich for this recipe.

I filled these pillowy soft Parker House style rolls with smooth cream cheese and a slightly sweet strawberry jam. The mix of cream and sweet is a great combination. It’s a little sweet without being too sweet. These rolls are much like my Orange Marmalade rolls, but without all the time spent waiting for the dough to rise.

Fill free to use your favorite jam or jelly instead of the strawberry jam.

Remove the rolls from the fridge and carefully remove them from the pan keeping all the rolls connected and together. Remove one roll and set aside. This is so you can match the top and bottom evenly later. Using a serrated knife, slice through the bread horizontally. Leave the rolls connected. Youโ€™ll have 2 round discs. Place the bottom disc back in the pan. I do recommend allowing the rolls to thaw before trying this recipe. It makes slicing them so much easier!

dessert sliders

You may want to top the bread with a simple glaze (1 cup confectioners sugar to 2 tablespoons milk) or a cream cheese glaze. I’ve prepared this recipe with and without the glaze and it’s good either way.

sliders

Everyone loves the sweet and creamy taste of strawberries, but now imagine if you could enjoy it with a buttery slider sandwich? Now itโ€™s possible with this tasty Strawberry Cream Pull Apart Bread. This easy-to-make breakfast, snack, or dessert recipe will give you a moist and chewy bread with a gooey, strawberry cream center. Ready to start baking? Follow this step-by-step recipe on how to make this delectable breakfast treat. So get your mixing bowls ready, and letโ€™s get baking!

  1. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appearance. I must say you have done a excellent job with this. Also, the blog loads super fast for me on Safari. Excellent Blog!

    1. It’s step 6. You place it back on the bottom rolls being careful to line them up with the matching bottom roll (for easier cutting)
*Basically you’re sandwiching the cream and jam filling between the top and bottom rolls.

  2. Oh, my goodness, Paula, I want about 5 of these right now! I’ve never seen anything like this. It looks amazing.

  3. Yum, how delicious looking! I’ll definitely have to try this out sometime!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. This is such a great idea, Paula! Love how easy this recipe is using Sister Schubert’s rolls! It looks delicious! Love watching The Chew!

  5. What a champion recipe. So simple. So good. How fun to be able to cook with her. I would have never thought of using
rolls for all those different applications. Unfortunately I watch almost no TV, so I don’t have a clue what The Big Chew is.
But cocktails sound great anyway. Ha!

    1. Thanks Carol! I don’t get to watch much either anymore, but when I have time that is one of my favorites.
