If you have a favorite brownie recipe, you can use it instead of the recipe listed below. Note, using a cake mix for the brownie base makes one 9×9-inch pan of brownies. Adjust either your brownie recipe or my praline pecan topping to match.

For the brownies, you’ll need.

  • Chocolate cake mix.
  • Vegetable oil. Or any neutrally flavored oil.
  • Milk. Whole, 1% or 2%. You can use non-dairy milk, but it won’t be as rich.
  • Egg. Use a large egg or equivalent.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chunks. You can use milk chocolate or bittersweet. If you use milk chocolate, the brownies won’t be as rich.

A note regarding corn syrup. This isn’t high fructose corn syrup that you hear all the negative things about. Many people confuse regular corn syrup with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), but these are two different products. First, fructose is sweeter than glucose. Manufacturers developed high fructose corn syrup, processed with enzymes to create a sweeter syrup. Regular corn syrup is 100 percent glucose, while HFCS can be 42 or 55 percent fructose. Because itโ€™s sweeter than regular corn syrup, manufacturers donโ€™t have to use as much of it in their products, which helps reduce production costs.

Pecan Praline Brownies FAQ

How do these brownies taste?

Picture the best of both worlds: a classic chocolate brownie combined with the buttery, caramelized sweetness of pecan praline. The result is a wonderful blend of chocolatey richness complemented by the nutty, crunchy pecan pie topping.

Can I make these brownies without any baking experience?

Absolutely! These brownies are incredibly simple to make. The recipe utilizes a cake mix as the base, making it a breeze for both novice and seasoned bakers.

Are these brownies overly sweet?

While they do boast a delightful sweetness, it’s well-balanced. The chocolate base provides a rich flavor that’s beautifully offset by the caramel tones of the pecan praline topping. It’s a sweet treat without being overwhelming.

How do I store these brownies?

To keep them fresh, store these brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you want them to last longer, they can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for later indulgence.

Can I customize this recipe?

Absolutely! Feel free to add a dash of your favorite spices like cinnamon or a sprinkle of sea salt for a unique twist. Orange flavoring as well as coffee pairs beautifully and enhances the flavor of chocolate. You can also experiment with different types of nuts or even swap the chocolate chunks for white chocolate if you fancy a change.

I have a thing for pecans and caramel. Easy Pecan Praline Sauce is a wonderful dessert sauce over ice cream or pound cake. GOOEY PUMPKIN BARS WITH PRALINE TOPPING and PRALINE GLAZED PUMPKIN POUND CAKE are similar recipes with a pumpkin base.

  1. Can I assume the nut mixture goes onto the brownies before it goes into the oven the second time or after it comes out again?
