Easy, fun, and tasty! Mandarin or Tangerine Mojito just screams summer! Classic mojito gets an update with mandarin! This citrus refreshment has oranges, lime, rum, mint, sugar, and a splash of bubbly!
MANDARIN OR TANGERINE MOJITO
Regardless of the flavor, mojitos make a refreshing cocktail, especially during the hot, humid, sticky Southern summer months. Mint is a natural cooling and refreshing herb and the perfect addition to rum for a summer drink. Sunny citrus and bright mint pair beautifully in my version of the classic cocktail.
Mojitos originated in the Caribbean, but the exact history is a little muddled. (hahahaha!! Pun intended!) Although many reports claim mojitos were favored by Ernest Hemingway.
However, sugar cane was abundant in the Caribbean which resulted in plenty of rum at affordable prices. This is also why other sugary cocktails are popular in the Southern states. (As well, this supports my theory why Southerners like our drinks and desserts a little sweeter than other areas.)
MANDARIN OR TANGERINE MOJITO PERSONALIZED
For the record, you can substitute any variety of orange for either mandarin or tangerine. However, both mandarin oranges and tangerines have a different flavor than oranges. Try this Screwdriver cocktail with your oranges!
Mandarin oranges have a strong citrus aroma that is fresh and pleasant smell. They have vanilla and spicy component to their flavor profile. Whereas, tangerines are less tart but sweeter than oranges. Tangerines also tend to have a stronger flavor profile than oranges and a shorter aftertaste. (One exception to this is the blood orange.)
