Hawaiian Cream Cheese Danish Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of bread is King’s Hawaiian?

Oddly, on King’s Hawaiian website, they never say exactly what kind of bread the slider rolls are. I did find on another site stating they are a ‘spin on classic Portuguese sweet bread, which is often made with milk, sugar, yeast, flour, and pineapple juice.’

In my opinion, King’s Hawaiian is similar to brioche. It’s light and airy with a fine, tender texture. They taste buttery and slightly sweet.

Isn’t everything already cooked? How long do I need to cook them?

Since everything is already cooked except the egg in the cream cheese mixture, you just need to get it to 145ยฐF for 15 seconds.
The Food and Drug Administration Food Code recommends cooking eggs to 145ยฐF and to maintain that temperature for 15 seconds to consider them safe to eat.

How to fill the Danish with cream cheese mixture?

It’s easier if you use a piping bag with a large tip on it to pipe the cream cheese into the rolls. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can up a zip-top bag and snip the end. You’ll need to work with it to get the cream cheese into the roll and not just on top. As well, you can spoon the cream cheese into the rolls. It may take a little working with the first time you do it. I found the piping bag and tip the easiest.

  • Bake the rolls, uncovered at 375ยฐF for 12 to 15 minutes. Everything is already cooked except the egg and they just need to be at 145ยฐF for 15 seconds. (You can test with anย instant-read thermometerย if you prefer.) Therefore, after 12 minutes it really depends on how crusty you want the rolls to get. I prefer soft and took the ones photographed out at 12 minutes.

I don’t usually leave comments but these were SOOOO GOOD! And so easy. My daughter is going to make some for her next staff meeting and I know my son will love them when I make him a pan full.

  2. 5 stars
These are amazing! I made them for me and my teenage son! We might have eaten the entire batch! Lol Making them again today! Thank you so the recipe!!!

  3. I just wanted to comment that I think you are a very patient, kind blogger. It must be frustrating at times to be so nice. Great recipes!

    1. It’s challenging at times when readers are rude for no reason, but I try to be helpful and/or understanding. Thank you for your kind words.

  4. 5 stars
These were SO good! Not overly sweet. Will be making them regularly for weekends or special mornings. I sprinkled some mini chocolate chips on top of the cream cheese before baking.

  5. How about cutting the rolls horizontally? So, the would be taking the whole slab of rolls before separating and cutting so there is one big top and one big bottom. Put the bottom in the pan, spread on the cream cheese mixture and put the top on. Then top with the cinnamon butter mixture. Seems like it would be easier. Could save some and put a half teaspoon or so on the top, if desired.

    1. I did it that way with these Hawaiian Rolls Strawberry Cheesecake Sliders and Quick Cinnamon Hawaiian Rolls. The cinnamon rolls worked fine that way but the Strawberry Cheesecake sliders didn’t. They were messy to eat and the filling tends to squish out, I think the cream cheese mixture will squish out of these as well if you do them like that. Cutting the holes in the top really didn’t take much time. Let me know how they turn out if you make them slider style.

  6. Dear Paula,
“Danish” means something. It’s not this. These are buns, not danishes. They are most certainly really delicious, but not danishes.

  7. Your recipe says it’s only 7 carbs in the whole thing, you’re incorrect there’s
16 carbs in just the roll BEFORE adding all the extra ingredients.

  8. Can you please put back up the recipe with measurements to the cheese danish ones? The only recipe I see now is for the lemon!

    1. Jennifer, I am so happy you commented. I had no idea that recipe had gotten messed up! Thank you! I have it fixed now!

  9. Just trying to get the recipe for the Kings Hawaiian Danish Cream Cheese rolls and everything brings me back to this page that has the recipe for the lemon curd rolls!

    1. I’m so very sorry! I just realized these 2 recipes messed up. It’s fixed now. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience!
