I rode to Memphis the other day with Big Daddy just to eat lunch. Cooking so much myself, I’m already ready to eat something that I don’t make!
We decided to go to Houston’s. If you’re not familiar with Houston’s Restaurant, they don’t have crazy culinary creations on the menu. Simple, basic foods that are done right. Every appetizer, salad, sandwich, and dessert never disappoint; they’re prepared to perfection every. single. time.
Houstons Restaurant Buttermilk Garlic Salad Dressing
I love salads, but I hate to make them at home. So I ordered a chicken club salad with Buttermilk Garlic Dressing. Turns out, I could have drunk the dressing. It was that good.
As well, it took me a couple of tries, but this recipe is close in taste to theirs.
This salad dressing is creamy from the sour cream, buttermilk, and mayonnaise. In addition, the flavor comes from paprika, pepper, garlic, and dry mustard.
I recommend making it a few hours before serving so all the ingredients marry together.
Buttermilk Garlic Salad Dressing goes great on a green salad regardless of what toppings you choose. In fact, it’s also good with pita chips!๐
If you like a bit of spice, try Jalapeno Ranch Salad Dressing.

Absolutely delicious! I made it per the recipe (well, except for the part where I used smoked paprika instead of sweet paprika and had to scoop it out and replace it with the correct ingredient). I added just a shake of granulated garlic because my teaspoon of fresh garlic was on the skimpy side. It was sooo good even just made that I understood the comments about wanting to drink it! It’s in the fridge getting mellow while I have a pre-dinner cocktail and do the same. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!
I love this recipe!!! I have increased my salad eating since making this.
Should I use SMOKED paprika or SWEET paprika?
My paprika just says ‘paprika’. It’s not smoked but it’s really not sweet either. If you have both, I’d use sweet.
Iโm giving it 5 stars without trying it because of reviews! I love this Houstonโs dressing and would order it with the Club salad like you. Iโd always ask for extra on the side because, again like you said, I could drink it. Oh and those hime made croutonsโฆ..๐. Iโm looking forward to recreating this as our local Houstonโs restaurant closed.
Wanting to try this recipe but being from the south, we mostly use Dukes mayonnaise. Is there a particular brand of mayonnaise to use for this recipe that makes it perfect?
I always use either Duke’s or Blue Plate. I have used both in this recipe and really can’t tell the difference. (Probably could if I did a side by side test, but from memory, I couldn’t.)
Such yummy dressing! Will be making this again soon! Thank you!
It was delicious! Everyone loved it. They were even dipping their pizza in it. Lol!
Love this!!
