Homemade Ranch Seasoning Recipe is a multipurpose seasoning that’s easy to make from scratch. Add that fresh herb flavor to any meat or vegetable without having a creamy base of a salad dressing.

This mix is so easy to make and great to have on hand in your pantry.

Homemade Ranch Seasoning

The major pros of making seasonings at home are they are more economical to make than purchasing store-bought. Additionally, and maybe the biggest bonus, you control exactly what goes into the seasoning. You control the salt, which is, other than taste, the biggest concern for most people.

As well, you can quickly make salad dressing or dip by stirring in milk, buttermilk, sour cream, or Greek yogurt.

I keep this seasoning mix on hand for dressings and dips to flavor meat and potatoes instead of using a store-bought ranch dressing packet.

One of my favorite recipes to add is my Crock Pot Crack Chicken recipe. That’s a very popular recipe on my site and I had a few people comment about it being too salty. I went about to make it better and created this Homemade Ranch Seasoning Recipe to control the salt in it.

Most of the dry ranch seasoning mix ingredients are simple. You may already have them in your pantry. Parsley, onion flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, dill, pepper, and salt (optional) give this delicious seasoning mix its flavor! (To make salad dressing you’ll need milk or buttermilk.) Powdered milk is the final ingredient. I actually had it in the pantry from another recipe, but I’ll admit, I don’t use it often.

What is powdered milk?

Powdered milk or dried milk is a manufactured dairy product made by evaporating milk to dryness. One purpose of drying milk is to preserve it; milk powder has a far longer shelf life than liquid milk and does not need to be refrigerated, due to its low moisture content.

I used this brand. You can also use powdered buttermilk instead of powdered milk.

How to make Homemade Ranch Seasoning Recipe

It really could not be more simple. You mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

If you store the seasoning recipe in an airtight container in a dark, cool place it will last up to six months.

The single one thing I like about making my own seasoning blends is you can add or omit ingredients to make it perfect for your and your family’s tastes.

  1. Omit the salt for a low-sodium version
  2. Add ground red pepper for a little zing
  3. Add Parmesan for a cheesy twist

This mix is a staple in my caninet!!!! Thank you for sharing its so good in so many soups but especially the chicken chili!!!! Score!!!!

  2. Can’t wait to try this. I don’t have ranch packets or powdered milk to make my own. Can I substitute a cup of Ranch dressing for the mayo since adding mayo is how your reconstitute the dressing mix packet anyway?

  3. Debi, why do you have to keep the seasoning in the fridge if it is made with the dry buttermilk powder? Are you talking about after it is made or the dry mixture?

    1. I am not sure why but the dry buttermilk package says to “refrigerate after opening”.

I love making this as it is so much cheaper then the package store bought. I make it with powered buttermilk, but you have to keep it in the fridge, When my granddaughter wants some at college I send her made with powdered milk as I have to mail it.
