HAMBURGER STEAK WITH ONIONS AND BROWN GRAVY RECIPE
After trying this for the first time, Lincoln exclaimed, “This tastes like a hamburger!”
I couldn’t help but giggle. He loves a grilled hamburger if he helps make it. The gravy on this Hamburger Steak was almost more than he could handle, but he did eat most of it. We struggle with his eating, but he is getting better.
One of my all-time favorite entrees, especially when I was young, was a Hamburger Steak. As I got older and my tastes developed more I started making a Hamburger Steak with Onions and Brown Gravy Recipe. I remember going to a local restaurant that was known for its high-quality steaks. I got a hamburger steak. Everyone at my party gave me strange looks. But the gravy! You can’t get good brown gravy with a grilled ribeye!
Nowadays, I don’t order something at a restaurant that I make at home. And when it’s economical to make, when it’s quick to make and when the whole family eats it, I’ll be making it at home that’s for sure!
ARE HAMBURGER STEAK AND SALISBURY STEAK THE SAME THING?
They are very similar. However, Salisbury steak contains more fillers such as breadcrumbs, minced onions, and eggs. Typically, hamburger steak contains just hamburger meat and spices.

This looks amazing. I want to ask a question. What brand of beef broth do you use? I have tried several and I notice a whang taste when I use beef broth. Have you ever noticed it?
I like Swanson organic beef broth or Better than Bouillon beef flavor. I’m really trying to use organic now when I can, but the beef bouillon is so convenient and easy to keep.
Made this last night for dinner. It was very good, loved the gravy and next time will double that. Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe.

I am looking for a recipe for hamburger patties in a crockpot. Would this recipe work in a crockpot and can you put the hamburger steak on a bun?
Thank you,
Arlene
Hi Paula, This hamburger steak and gravy looks delicious. I’ve recently been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, can I use corn starch in place of the flour for the gravy?
Thank you
Linda
are they supposed to be pink in the middle????
Light pink is okay. I cook them until they light pink to gray. I usually cut into one to test. If your patties were thick it may take longer to cook.
Do I add the flour to the fat? How much grease should there be
I’m curious about this too! Do I drain some of the fat?
Thank you for this recipe! Made it for tonight’s dinner and it was delicious!
