What are some of your food memories? Rice Pudding is one of my very favorite childhood food memories. For my husband, it’s chocolate pudding. However, mostly, it’s instant chocolate pudding. Just imagine if he thinks instant chocolate pudding is good, what he thinks about real German Chocolate Homemade Pudding!!
This German Chocolate Homemade Pudding reminds me of the Chocolate Pies my mom used to make. She would save a small bowl of the filling out for my brother and meย to enjoy while it was warm.
If you’ve never made homemade pudding, it tastes amazing and nothing like the pudding mix. Pudding isn’t difficult to make, it just takes a little patience stirring constantly for about 10 minutes. As well, this pudding is versatile in that you can stir whipped cream into it to make mousse or pour it into a pie shell for a pie.

- The best advice I can give you for this recipe is to be patient. Keep your temperature on medium to medium-low and whisk constantly. If you try to rush the process and you don’t t stir it the thick pudding mixture will likely stick to the bottom of your pan.
- The next best advice is to be very careful not to cook your egg yolks when you add them to the hot mixture. You’ll need to temper the eggs before adding. Tempering is merely bringing the eggs up to the temperature of the sauce. To Temper them slowly add some of the hot mixture to the eggs while stirring the eggs.
- You can strain the mixture to get out any little bits of egg that over cooked but the goal is to not have much and certainly not to have big chunks of cooked eggs in the creamy mixture.
