My Favorite Cookie Baking Tools

Baking is, by far, my favorite kind of cooking, whether it’s baking pound cakes, cookies, or pies. I’d much rather make desserts than savory food. Therefore, I compiled a list of my favorite cookie-baking tools for you. The right tools make baking more fun, and they make great gifts, too!

Favorite Cookie Baking Tools
1. Stand mixer
Recommended: KitchenAid 4.5qt Tilt-Head Stand Mixer.
Quantity: 1
A stand mixer is a must if you bake regularly. This is the mixer I own and absolutely love it. I like the 4.5-quart size. It’s large enough for anything I make. Even if I’m making a small-batch recipe, I use this KitchenAid mixer. (I finally gave away my hand mixer because I never used it.) This mixer comes with a Coated Flat Beater, Coated Dough Hook, and 6-Wire Whip (whisk). You can get up to 10 additional attachments if you so desire.
2. Measuring cups and spoons
Recommend: I love this set of measuring cups because of the soft, easy-grip handles and quality stainless steel. I also love this set of measuring cups – because they’re fun colors and make me feel good.
Quantity: 1 to 2 sets, depending on how much you bake
3. Spring-release scoops
Recommend: Cookie Scoop Set
Quantity: I like this set of 3 sizes, but I recommend the medium-sized cookie scoop if you want one.
Cookie scoops are handy for cookies, drop biscuits, rolls, cake balls, pancakes, and, of course, ice cream. Specifically, I use the large size for cookies, cupcakes, and muffins.
4. Half-sheet pans
Quantity: at least 2
What I own and love: Nordic Ware Half Sheet Pan and USA Pan Bakeware Half Sheet Pan. This sheet pan with lid also comes in handy!
I use my sheet pans All.The.Time.
I use them for cookies and sheet pan meals. But I also use them as trays when we want to snack on the couch. And I use them to catch drips under my cake and pie pans when baking.
You don’t want to get the cheapest sheet pan you can find. Good quality cookie sheets are a necessity because the color and material of your cookie sheets affect your cookies. (This is true for cake pans, too.) Dark metal pans, as well as thin, flimsy pans, cook faster and can burn your cookies.
5. Cooling Racks
I recommend at least 2: Cooling Rack
I typically allow my baked cookies to cool for 2 minutes on the cookie sheets once I remove them from the oven. Then I transfer them to a cooling rack to set and cool.
6. Silicone Baking Mats
I recommend 2 of these mats. Silpat Premium Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat. Plus, I also like these parchment paper sheets. This brand is already cut to size. You’ll find a lot of uses for them.
Get the size silicone mat that fits your sheet pans. I feel like a professional baker using silicone mats. They prevent cookies from over-spreading, prevent an overly greasy cookie bottom, and promote even cooking and browning.
Note: They aren’t cutting boards, so don’t cut on them. But they’re reusable and dishwasher-friendly.
7. Rolling Pin
You’ll want one rolling pin: Rolling pin
Rolling pins are a must for cutout cookies and pie crust. They are expensive and mine, linked above, has lasted me for years.
8. Cookie Cutter
What I own and love:
Round: Round Cookie Cutter Set and OXO Good Grips Cookie Press
You’ll want to buy quality, sturdy cookie cutters with sharp edges to give you a clean cut.
9. Cookie Carrier
I like this cookie carrier. It transports cookies easily with breakage. You’ll probably only need one.

10. Silicone Spatulas
I have two sets of these silicone spatulas. You’ll want a few good-quality silicone spatulas.
Bonus. Food scale
For more accurate measuring, you’ll want one good food scale.
