Energy Balls are sweetened naturally with dates. As well, they are loaded with almonds. Almonds are a good source of healthy monounsaturated fats. These fats are associated with lowering the risk of heart disease. Eating almonds offer antioxidant action from Vitamin E and help to lower cholesterol.

Energy Balls make a great pre or post workout snack or when you need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

Once you get into the habit of making these energy bites on a regular basis, you will always have something healthy to snack and you can add all sorts of other ingredients of your choice! I change them up by adding chia seeds, flax seeds, and cacao powder to make them the perfect healthy energy balls!

Energy Balls Tips

  1. I did not grind the almonds fine. I left them larger so there would provide a little crunch.
  2. If you don’t have a food processor, try blending them in a blender.
  3. You do not have to cook the Energy Balls. They are a little sticky before cooking. If you decide not to cook them, you’ll want to roll them in cocoa, coconut, etc.
  4. As well, omit the cinnamon if you’re not a fan.
  5. Change up the nut by substituting walnuts or cashews for the almonds.
  6. Finally, you can substitute flax seeds for the chia seeds.

Do I have to use Medjool dates?

Yes. Deglet Noor dates or ‘regular’ dates wonโ€™t churn out the thick fudgy consistency that you need for Energy Balls. Medjools are a must in this instance. Both Medjool and Deglet Noor are similar in nutritional composition. Both are great sources of potassium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorous, calcium, vitamin B3, and a high concentration of fiber.
