Is Ricotta healthy?

Ricotta cheese has a creamy, soft texture and mild flavor therefore, it’s good in both sweet and savory dishes. It can be made from cow, goat or sheep milk whey. *You can get full-fat ricotta as well as low-fat and fat-free ricotta. Of course the nutrition profile of low-fat and fat-free ricotta will vary compared to full-fat ricotta. These are still rich in protein, calcium,ย selenium, and phosphorus.

It’s considered one of theย healthiest cheeseย varieties. Ricotta contains all nine essential amino acids and is high in protein, calcium, selenium, and phosphorus, as well as several other important vitamins and minerals. It also boosts bone health, is high in protein, supports weight loss, and helps lower blood pressure.

Benefits of Himalayan salt

I have only just recently come to know the health benefits of Himalayan salt. Do you know it helps to regulate hydration? Yes, it does. Also, it helps detoxify your body and soften your skin.

Since the body absorbs such electrolytes faster than it absorbs water, the consumption of Himalayan salt water leads to faster hydration.

Ricotta Toast Topping Ideas

Fruit – Use can use fresh or frozen thawed fruit as well as dried fruit on ricotta toasts. Jam, jelly, and preserves are good too but you may want to watch the sugar amounts in those.

Sweet – A squeeze of honey, maple syrup, or date syrup will make mild ricotta tastier. Of course, you can also add chocolate chips, Nutella, and cinnamon sugar just don’t add too much if you’re eat ricotta toast for health reasons.

Vegetables – Top your ricotta toast with a variety of vegetables for more nutrients. My favorite is fresh, roasted or sun-dried tomatoes. Broccoli, cucumber, sprouts, microgreens, and herbs are delicious. (Did you know that sprouts have higher amounts of nutrients than the full grown version of the same plant? They’re a great way to pack in nutrients!

Extras – I call things that make your toasts ‘prettier’ extras, but actually they offer nutrients as well. Try adding chia seeds, hemp seeds, chopped almonds, Everything Bagel seasoning, and sunflower or sesame seeds.

Protein – When I have ricotto or avocado toasts for dinner and need it to stay with me until morning, I add more protein to it. You can stir a little unflavored protein powder into the ricotta. As well, you can add nut butters, proscuitto or salmon. A boiled or poached egg is a great topper too.

  • Bread. The best bread is sturdy bread such as multi-grain, whole grain, or sourdough bread. However, you can use any bread you have on hand. I used Dave’s Killer Bread Powerseed.
  • Ricotta. You can use your favorite ricotta whether it’s whole, reduced fat, or low fat ricotta.
  • Strawberries and blueberries. Wash and dry your fruit. Slice the strawberries.
  • Date syrup. I drizzled on maybe 1 teaspoon of date syrup to bump up the flavor.
  • Himalayan salt. I sprinkled Himalayan salt over my toast just before eating it. I love the salt with the contrasting sweet date syrup.

I made this for my daughter and I as a treat breakfast when my hubby and son went early morning fishing (they would have needed bacon!)
She and I both loved it. I didn’t have date syrup so used maple like you suggested and it was such a delicious breakfast idea.
My daughter did shave a little dark chocolate onto hers which I was happy with as she has been displaying some symptoms of disordered eating for the past few months, so to see her eating a really fun nutritious breakfast was a big deal.
Thank you for a great start to the day
