Chocolate Chip Pan Cookies
This scrumptious chocolate dessert could also be called ‘Lazy Cookies’. Basically, that’s what it is. There is no scooping and baking, and more scooping and baking. Just one pan full of decadent cookie dough, baked until it crispy around the edges with melty chocolate throughout!
This just may be the perfect cookie bar recipe! They’re tender and yummy. They are buttery, chewy, thick and chocked full of rich, semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Chocolate chip bar cookies are great for summer parties, picnics, and potlucks. They are always a crowd-favorite among all ages.
Recipe Tips for Making Cookie Bars
In my opinion, the most delightful cookie bars are about a 1/2 inch thick. Because of the ratio of brown sugar to white sugar, Chocolate Chip Pan Cookies are soft and slightly chewy with crisp edges.
They stay soft and chewy if stored in an airtight container. For nice, straight cuts I recommend waiting until they are completely cool to cut into. That is the hardest part of this recipe.
I recommend a good chocolate chip like these Ghirardelli Semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Chocolate Chip Pan Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar firmly packed
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips milk or dark chocolate can be used
- 1 cup chopped pecans optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 9×13 inch cake pan with non-cook spray.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until creamy. Beat in eggs.
- Gradually add flour mixture and mix until combined. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans by hand.
- Spread dough into the pan. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 22 minutes.
- Cool completely before cutting.

This is my go to pan cookie now. I just purchased another pizza pan to make and just noticed it’s 14” instead of 12”. I’m sure it’s still going to be delectable!

I love, love, love this recipe too. I think I have that cookbook. When I was 16 my girl friends made me this. They put it in a round pizza pan and put candles on top.
I'm going to admit something ….. I hate, I mean really hate, making cookies. I hate standing over them and babysitting them! I usually have my husband or kids make cookies. This seems like such an easier way and I still get all to eat Chocolate Chip Cookies! Yay 🙂
