This hearty dip is a staple any time I have a party. Pork sausage, cream cheese, cheddar cheese… what’s not to love about it?

I make this version on the stove but you can adapt it for the slow cooker.

How to Make Sausage Cheese Diop

It’s so easy!!

  1. Brown your sausage until no pink remains then drain off the fat.
  2. Add sausage to a large mixing bowl.
  3. Reserve 1/2 cup cheese.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl with the sausage.
  5. Stir all the ingredients together.
  6. Pour the mixture into your oven-safe bowl and top with the reserved cheese.
  7. Bake until heated through and the cheese is melted on top.

Slow Cooker

To make it in the slow cooker, simply brown the sausage and drain the grease. Add the meat, cream cheese, cheddar cheese,ย mayo, Dijon, pepper, and garlic to the slow cooker. (You may need to add a little whole milk if the mixture is too thick.) Put the slow cooker on low heat and stir occasionally until the cheese melts and it’s hot.ย

Tips and Variations

Here are a few ideas for substitutions and variations for this dip.

  1. Sausage – I used ground pork breakfast sausage. You can use Italian sausage.
  2. Cheese – You can alter the cheese if you don’t have cheddar or prefer another type.
  3. This dip has Dijon mustard in it. You can taste the mustard it. Therefore, I recommend reducing the amount or omitting it altogether if you’re not a mustard fan.
  4. As well, I use just a little mayonnaise in my recipe. It lightens it just a tad. Otherwise, it’s really thick with just cream cheese.

How do you serve cheesy sausage dip?

After you remove this dip from the oven, let it sit for at least 5 minutes to cool. Just so it doesn’t burn anyone. I do, however, prefer it served warm.

I like to serve Cheesy Sausage Dip with Scoops. The chips in the photo are off-brand corn chips that taste just like Scoops. As well, tortilla chips, sturdy crackers, chips, crostini, pretzel sticks, or breadsticks will be good.

Finally, you could also use vegetables to dip. Try broccoli, cauliflower, celery, or zucchini.

How long will sausage dip keep?

If storage properly in an airtight container, it will keep 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

However, remember, any dip that has set out for an extended period of time (over 1 hour) should be discarded.
